Welcome to CNK
Community Nursery Kindergarten was established in 1962 by First Church of Pembroke under Massachusetts State Law as a nonprofit educational institution. The Department of Early Education and Care is our state licensing authority. We are also accredited by the NAEYC's National Academy of Early Childhood Programs.
The school is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors and a independent administrator who is on site daily and oversees the operation of the school. Our staff consists of experienced early childhood professionals who are certified to work with young children through E.E.C. Our school accepts all children regardless of race gender, religion, cultural heritage, disability, national origin and/or the political beliefs, marital status or sexual orientation of parents. Our enrollment is approximately 120 students. All classes have a maximum of 20 children with a teacher-pupil ratio of 1-7.
Our Educational Philosophy
The goal of CNK is to provide a safe, positive, enriching preschool environment for all children who come to play and learn with us. We offer each child the opportunity to explore and discover the world through challenging, developmentally appropriate learning activities and well-planned play opportunities. We strive to create a warm nurturing atmosphere which fosters each child's growing self-esteem through praise, encouragement, a sense of security and loving acceptance.
The learning environment is organized by teachers to provide a well-balanced program designed to appeal to the interests and abilities of each child at his or her own individual stage of development. We accomplish this by providing theme-based, multi-sensory, hands-on experiences that promote a child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth.
Research shows that academic achievement in later years comes most easily to children who have a firm grounding in concrete play activities. It is our desire to provide a setting for these activities where the interactions between the children and staff are characterized by warmth, personal respect, individuality and responsiveness.
It is our goal to strengthen the Home/School connection by welcoming family involvement. We invite the input of parents and caregivers and encourage them to spend time with their children in class or on field trips. Parents are also encouraged to view the staff as a source of support and a resource in the challenging role of child rearing.
With some exceptions, CNK follows the Pembroke Public School's calendar for holidays, vacations and snow days. Our school also maintains a "peanut free" policy to accommodate children with allergies.
